Antifa Murders Young Catholic Activist in Lyon: Leftist Media and Politicians Rush to Defend the Killers or Blame the Victim
THE FALL
2/20/20262 min read

On February 12, 2026, in Lyon, France, 23-year-old mathematics student and devout Catholic Quentin Deranque was brutally beaten to death by a mob of at least six masked Antifa militants. He was providing security for female protesters from the identitarian women’s rights group Collectif Némésis, who were demonstrating against a far-left event featuring LFI MEP Rima Hassan at Sciences Po Lyon. Quentin suffered severe head trauma from repeated kicks and blows while on the ground. He was placed in a coma and died two days later on February 14.
This was not a “clash” or “mutual fight,” as some leftist outlets are desperately trying to frame it. It was a targeted, cowardly lynching by organized Antifa thugs who ambushed and stomped a young man to death for the crime of protecting women from the radical left.
The French government and right-wing politicians have correctly blamed the “ultra-left” and Antifa for the murder. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez stated plainly that “it is clearly the far-left that killed him.” A parliamentary assistant linked to the far-left LFI party is among those arrested. Eleven suspects with ties to the banned Antifa group Jeune Garde have been detained so far, with prosecutors seeking murder charges.
The Left’s Disgraceful Response: Victim-Blaming and Defense of Antifa
As expected, the leftist response has been vile. Instead of condemning the cold-blooded murder of a 23-year-old Catholic student, many on the left have rushed to blame the victim or downplay the attack:
Left-wing media and activists have labeled Quentin a “neo-fascist” or “far-right militant,” attempting to justify or minimize the killing.
Some have framed it as a “clash between rival extremists,” ignoring that Quentin was providing non-violent security for a women’s rights group while the attackers were masked Antifa thugs.
La France Insoumise (LFI) has tried to distance itself while simultaneously accusing the right of “exploiting” the tragedy for political gain.
This is the same playbook we see repeatedly: When Antifa kills, the left blames the victim, claims it was “mutual,” or stays silent. When a right-winger so much as speaks, it’s “stochastic terrorism.”
Far-right and conservative leaders have responded with outrage. Protests and tribute marches have taken place in Lyon, Paris, Montpellier, and other cities, with banners reading “Antifa murderers, justice for Quentin.” Marine Le Pen and the National Rally have called for Antifa to be designated a terrorist organization in Europe. The incident has sparked a major political firestorm ahead of municipal elections.
The Bigger Picture: Leftist Violence Is Escalating Across the West
Quentin Deranque’s murder is not an isolated tragedy. It is part of a growing pattern of Antifa and far-left violence across Europe and the West, where radicals feel increasingly emboldened to use lethal force against anyone they label “fascist” which now includes Catholic students, women’s rights activists, and conservatives.
This is the face of the leftist insurgency: They infiltrate institutions, radicalize youth, and when challenged, resort to mob violence and murder then cry victim when held accountable.
France is in shock, but the real test is whether the political class will finally treat Antifa as the terrorist movement it is, or continue to coddle it as “anti-fascist” activism.
Quentin Deranque was doing what good men do, protecting women at a protest. For that, he was beaten to death by masked cowards.
Rest in peace, Quentin. Your death will not be memory-holed.
We will continue cataloging these incidents at LeftistViolence.org because the pattern is clear, and the threat is growing.
The left’s violence must be confronted before more innocent lives are lost.
